Environmental Impact and Risk Assessments

IEM offers a full range of environmental assessment services to the corporate and public sector which include:

Environmental Impact Assessments - Environmental impact assessments incorporate primary and secondary data to evaluate potential environmental and socio-economic impacts from proposed project activities. As part of the EIA process IEM outlines prevention and mitigation measures for potentially significant impacts and designs a protection and management plan to ensure compliance with existing legislation and company directives.

Risk Assessment - Risk assessment methodologies have been developed to provide a structured approach to the analysis of safety hazards. By their nature, they allow a systematic assessment of the management options to minimize the risk to workers and the public. This approach is also used to assess the risks to the environment by determining the impacts both of planned activities (e.g., emissions and discharges) and unplanned events (e.g., chemical spills). In this way, the risks from each stage of a project development can be assessed and systems for their management put in place.

Social Impact Assessment – SIA is a process for identifying, evaluating and managing positive and negative consequences of development to affected human populations. IEM regularly conducts SIAs in advance of project implementation as an integral part of the EIA process.

Environmental Monitoring - IEM offers a complete monitoring service for air, water, soil and groundwater quality. IEM specializes in the design of scientifically defensible, cost-effective monitoring programs. IEM pays special attention to aspects of quality control and quality assurance from sample collection through to laboratory analysis to ensure all data are valid.

Environmental Management Systems

EMS (ISO 14001) – IEM helps develop and implement this valuable tool for clients seeking compliance with international standards, local regulations and corporate policy. An EMS states the company’s environmental policy and details its environmental guidelines and programs, often as a preliminary step in pursuing ISO 14001 designation. IEM’s portfolio includes a variety of corporate clients, including Thailand’s largest energy sector firms.

Environmental Awareness Training – as organizations are beginning to realize environmental awareness serves as a basis to achieve further environmental and operational goals, IEM has been active in designing training programs to provide participants with clear understanding of industrial operations and processes that have a potential to impact the environment. The premise of these training programs is to minimize environmental impacts through effective management.

Software and Data Management - IEM offers a number of software solutions to monitoring and managing environmental data, legislation and engineering. IEM also offers customized software packages for clients seeking to integrate these software packages with their existing data management systems.

Site Assessment and Remediation

Due diligence audits – In acquiring a site or facility, it is essential that investors protect themselves during the due diligence phase by identifying potential environmental liabilities left undisclosed by the vendor or previous owner. A Pre-acquisition Audit (e.g. ASTM 1527) can provide real estate brokers, investors and managers with a full understanding of whether or not the facility or property under consideration meets their own corporate requirements, local guidelines, or international standards.

Site Assessment – any type of subsurface investigation to determine the environmental quality of the site, including drilling, soil and groundwater sampling and analysis, plume delineation, bench-scale testing; pilot-scale testing, etc.

Remediation - once contamination of the site has been established, IEM can evaluate remediation alternatives for the client and conduct full-scale or limited clean-up of contaminated sediments; groundwater and soils. Some of the remediation techniques used include soil excavation, in situ bioremediation, ex situ remediation, reactive capping and “pump-and-treat” groundwater systems.

Land-Use and Pollution Modeling – where appropriate, IEM uses land-use and pollution models in environmental assessments to allowing facility operators/managers and real estate developers the opportunity to create accurate “what-if” scenarios prior to making final investment or location decisions. Modeling also provides a valuable planning tool for managers concerned with the by-products of industrial processes by accurately predicting the potential impacts caused by airborne or water-borne effluents.

Environmental and Natural Resource Management

Natural Resources and Environmental Management is a systems approach to managing natural resources and the environment. IEM has been involved in numerous program planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs, development of regional methodologies for strategic planning and evaluation, diagnostic studies of natural resources and environmental issues within the entire South-East Asia region.

Environmental, Health and Safety Services

The issue of occupational health and safety and environmental compliance in industrial facilities is of fundamental concern to firms with a multi-national character, with international brand-name recognition and reputations at stake. IEM help develop, update or use an existing corporate EMS to identify whether the established standards are met. Based on the findings, we can offer recommendations for further action and improvement.
